Spay & Neuter Services

Spaying and neutering pets is an important step that helps reduce the number of homeless animals. Spaying is the surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus of a female animal. Neutering is the surgical removal of the testicles of a male animal. Spaying and neutering pets can have many benefits including reducing or eliminating unwanted behaviors, such as urine marking (spraying) in males and yowling in females. Spayed females cannot become pregnant, so there are no unwanted litters of puppies or kittens to find homes for. Neutered males are less likely to roam away from home looking for mates, so they are less likely to get lost or hurt in fights. Spaying and neutering also has health benefits for your pet, such as reducing the risk of certain types of cancer.

Crystal River Animal Hospital recommends spaying or neutering dogs and cats at 6 months of age before they reach sexual maturity. We offer high-quality, low-cost spay/neuter surgery for dogs and cats that includes a pre-surgical exam, pain medication, antibiotics, and e-collars.

Soft Tissue and Mass Removals

Soft tissue and mass removals are common surgical procedures performed at Crystal River Animal Hospital. These procedures are often necessary to remove growths or masses that may be cancerous or otherwise harmful to your pet. During a soft tissue removal, our veterinarian will make an incision in the skin to access the underlying tissue. The surgeon will then carefully remove the growth or mass, taking care not to damage surrounding tissue. A biopsy may be performed on the removed tissue to determine if it is cancerous. In some cases, soft tissue removal may be followed by radiation therapy or chemotherapy. Mass removals are similar to soft tissue removals but may require the removal of bone or other structures in addition to soft tissue. Our team of skilled surgeons is experienced in performing both soft tissue and mass removals, and we will work diligently to minimize your pet’s discomfort and ensure a smooth recovery.
